Robert Noto has been the Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel at Michigan State University since April 1995. At MSU he leads the Office of the General Counsel, which handles or supervises all legal work for the University. Mr. Noto has also chaired the principal legal officers group of the Big Ten Academic Alliance, formerly known as Committee on Institutional Cooperation, since 2009. Mr. Noto is the longest serving vice president at MSU and the longest serving principal legal officer in the BTAA. Before coming to MSU, he worked for 15 years in the Office of Legal Counsel at New York University, last serving as Associate General Counsel and Deputy Secretary to NYU's Board of Trustees. Mr. Noto was also Adjunct Associate Professor in NYU’s School of Education, where he taught Higher Education and the Law. Mr. Noto is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
