Brian Quinn is the Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel at Michigan State University. Before joining the Office of the General Counsel, Brian was a partner at the Honigman law firm in Lansing, Michigan, where he had a diverse litigation practice. Previously, he served as a law clerk for Justice Michael F. Cavanagh of the Michigan Supreme Court. Zachary Behler is an Assistant General Counsel at Michigan State University, where he practices in the areas of intellectual property law, technology transfer, and litigation. He serves as the primary contact for the MSU Technologies as well as University Licensing Programs. Prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, Zachary was a shareholder in the Lansing office of Foster, Swift, Collins, & Smith, P.C. He received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2006 where he was admitted to the Order of the Coif. He received bachelor degrees in Chemistry and International Relations from Michigan State University with high honors in 2003. Zachary is a member of both Michigan and Wisconsin State Bars, and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Matt currently serves as an Assistant General Counsel at Michigan State University, where his practice is devoted primarily to civil litigation. Prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, Matt spent over a decade in private practice in Chicago and Ann Arbor. Matt has defended and prosecuted a broad range of cases in state and federal court, including commercial disputes, tort claims, FOIA claims, and insurance coverage matters. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Colorado and obtained his law degree cum laude from Michigan State University in 2011. Matt currently serves as an adjunct professor at Michigan State University's College of Law where he has taught pre-trial practice since the fall of 2023.

James Gallagher is Assistant General Counsel at Michigan State University, where he manages a wide range of transactional matters, including complex information technology contracts and intellectual property matters. Prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, James led the IT Transactions Section for the Michigan Attorney General where he routinely assisted client-agencies in drafting and negotiating complex IT transactional agreements. James also worked in private practice at Varnum LLP, where he represented established corporate clients and entrepreneurial start-ups on a wide variety of transactional and corporate issues. James earned his law degree summa cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law and worked as a clerk for the Honorable Richard F. Suhrheinrich in the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Larry Gremel is a Senior Associate General Counsel at Michigan State University and has represented MSU since 2008 primarily advising on business and commercial issues. Theresa Kelley is a Senior Associate General Counsel at Michigan State University, where she primarily advises on faculty employment law and policy matters. Ms. Kelley is also responsible for advising on a variety of state and federal regulations and university policies including research misconduct, study abroad, and youth programs. Elizabeth Watza is an Assistant General Counsel at Michigan State University, where she practices litigation. Prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, Elizabeth was an Assistant Attorney General in the State Operations Division at the Michigan Department of Attorney General, where she primarily practiced civil defense litigation. Elizabeth was also an associate in private practice at TNMG Law with a focus on medical malpractice defense litigation. Elizabeth received her law degree cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University. As a law student, Elizabeth and her teammate advanced to the quarterfinals in the Williams Institute Moot Court Competition in 2016. While an undergraduate student at MSU, Elizabeth was a member of the women’s soccer team and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Lisa Bila is the Office Administrator in the Office of the General Counsel and has worked at Michigan State University since June 2000. She began working as a Legal Assistant with the litigation attorneys and was then promoted to the Office Administrator position. Currently, she manages the office and takes care of all the fiscal, budget, and human resource responsibilities. Prior to joining MSU, Ms. Bila served as the Office Administrator and Legal Assistant with a sole practitioner, Mark Rousseau, Attorney at Law, and then at Butzel Long. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Northwood University where she graduated summa cum laude.

Amy Meyer is an Executive Staff Assistant and has worked at Michigan State University in the Office of the General Counsel since January 2008.
Amy started at Harness, Dickey & Pierce, PLC, in Ann Arbor, supporting associate attorneys as well as the senior managing partner. After moving back to the Lansing area, Amy began working in a special education/disability law firm where she was the lead executive secretary and office manager providing support to the shareholder/lead attorney, several associate and assistant attorneys, as well as the client development coordinator. Along with her executive secretary duties, she managed and maintained the annual retention agreement renewals with major clients and was the account receivables clerk.
Amy has several roles in the Office of the General Counsel. She currently supports Senior Associate General Counsels Theresa Kelley and Larry Gremel and Assistant General Counsels Zack Behler and Jamie Haberichter. She also handles subpoenas on behalf of the University, is the database administrator for the office's specialized file management software, and maintains the office website, among other tasks.

Laurie Secord is an Executive Staff Assistant in the Office of the General Counsel and has been working on Michigan State University’s campus since April 1994. In 2015, Laurie joined the General Counsel's Office and has worked supporting several attorneys during that time. Her primary focus is transactional law contracts and agreements. She currently supports Kristine Moore in matters of employment law and civil rights, Radhika Pasricha with student affairs and immigration law, Lynn Kriser with the health colleges, and Jackie Kittel in student events, entertainment agreements, and international collaborations. Robin Stechschulte began her career in the Office of the General Counsel in late 1989, shortly after the office was established. Robin is the Executive Assistant to VP Brian Quinn and Shannon Torres, as well as legal assistant support to the litigation attorneys, Elizabeth Watza and Matthew Daniels. In addition to administrative support, she is responsible for court filing requirements, maintaining databases for litigation, potential litigation, and civil rights matters, preparing reports for outside agencies, and in response to federal grants, bond matters, and the annual audit. Robin also is responsible for gathering and processing information in response to search warrants, subpoenas and FOIA requests.
Prior to MSU's Office of the General Counsel, Robin worked for a private practitioner and for a large law firm in Lansing. She attended college specializing in legal and administrative courses and completed the National Association of Legal Professionals certification.
